sounds like the ball game that the mayans played. you kicked around a rubber 10 pound ball only with the legs and hips through a hoop 15 feet up. games would last days sometimes and the losers got their heads chopped off and used as balls for the game and sometimes the winners were sacrificed to the gods because of their victory
